        We would like to tell you about history of samoyed. Samoyedes were a nomadic people who were hunters and herdsmen. Their prized Bjelkier dogs could be counted on to fall in equally well as either hunter or herdsman, and in addition fill in as a sled dog when the occasion demanded.
        It's interesting to note that within the territory of Northern Russia, from the White Sea, east across the Ural Mountains, to the Yenise River, there could be found brown and white, black and white, and even black dogs that looked like the all white Bjelkier, but were Ostiak and Laika dogs out of the Archangel territory.
        The Samoyedes were unique among Eskimo people in that they had a close personal relationship with their dogs, as well as working one. It was known that, often, family members would each take a dog into the large tents they lived in (called Chooms), which were made of reindeer skin, and let the dog sleep with them under the reindeer skin robes for extra warmth. Children were allowed to play with the pups and women often raised the litters, even nursing a pup if the dam, for one or the another, was unable or unavailable to do so herself. This fact points up how much the Samoyede people prized these dogs and socialized them.
        In spite of their gentleness with their dogs and their good-natured ways, the Samoyedes were a very primitive people and it was not unusual to see the white fur pelt of an incapable worker adorning a woman's coat (Called Panza) or serving as chaps-like leggings on the men. Some early visitors to the Arctic tell of the dogs having been shorn like sheep.
